Choosing the Correct EGW Picatinny Rail

EGW offers different Picatinny rails for the Howa 1500, Weatherby Vanguard, Howa Mini Action, and Howa 1500 Super Lite. These receiver families are not interchangeable, so confirm the rifle’s exact model and caliber before selecting a rail.

• Preferred rail series, if multiple options are available

Action and Receiver Type

Howa Mini Action

Use a Howa Mini Action rail only when the firearm is specifically identified as a Howa Mini Action. Common Mini Action calibers include .223 Remington, 6.5 Grendel, and 7.62x39.

Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard Short Action

Common short-action calibers include:

• .22-250 Remington
• .243 Winchester
• 6mm Creedmoor
• 6.5 Creedmoor
• 7mm-08 Remington
• .308 Winchester

Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard Long Action

Common long-action calibers include:

• .25-06 Remington
• .270 Winchester
• 7mm Remington Magnum
• .30-06 Springfield
• .300 Winchester Magnum

Howa 1500 Super Lite

The Howa 1500 Super Lite uses its own rail. Standard Howa 1500 short-action rails do not fit the Super Lite.

If the exact receiver family or action cannot be confirmed, compare the hole-spacing measurements shown in the secondary product pictures with the rifle’s receiver before purchasing. Contact EGW Support when fitment remains uncertain.

Choosing 0 MOA or 20 MOA

Choose the MOA based on the distance where most shots will be taken:

• Most shooting from 0 through 500 yards: choose 0 MOA.
• Most shooting from 600 through 1,000 yards: choose 20 MOA.
• If the maximum distance is 500 yards, choose 0 MOA.
• Shooters regularly shooting beyond 1,000 yards should select the specialized MOA needed for their setup.

Only the distance where most shots will be taken is needed. A separate maximum-distance question is not required.

Choosing a Rail Series

Standard Duty

A lightweight and economical choice for most standard shooting applications.

HD

Recommended for heavier-recoiling or magnum calibers and when using quick-detach rings or attachments. Standard Duty rails can accept many attachments, but HD rails provide a better mounting surface for quick-detach equipment.

Steel HD

Provides maximum strength and durability. Available only for certain configurations.

Example

For a Howa 1500 chambered in .22-250 Remington with most shots taken at 300 yards:

• Receiver type: Short action
• Recommended MOA: 0 MOA
• Standard Duty option: SKU 48110
• HD option: SKU 81040
• Steel HD option: SKU 86400

The customer should select the preferred series. Recommend HD or Steel HD if quick-detach attachments will be used.
