Weatherby Mark V Picatinny Rail & Scope Base Fitment Guide

Determine whether your Weatherby Mark V uses a 6-lug or 9-lug bolt, then select the appropriate MOA.

Start with the bolt: Weatherby Mark V rails are separated by 6-lug and 9-lug actions. If the caliber does not clearly identify the action, count the bolt lugs or measure the receiver hole spacing before ordering.

1. Identify the action

Remove the bolt from the unloaded rifle and count the locking lugs at the front of the bolt. The rifle will use either a 6-lug or 9-lug Mark V action.

  • .300 Weatherby Magnum
  • .30-378 Weatherby Magnum

Caliber is only a starting point: Mark V rifles have been produced in different configurations. If the caliber is not listed, or if there is any uncertainty, count the bolt lugs or measure the center spread.

6. Choose the MOA

  • 0 MOA: The normal choice for shooting primarily from 0 to 500 yards.
  • 20 MOA: Recommended for shooting primarily from approximately 600 to 1,000 yards.

Choose the MOA based on the distance at which most shots will be taken.

7. Important fitment notes

  • The 6-lug rail does not fit the Weatherby Mark V Varmintmaster.
  • Weatherby Vanguard and Weatherby 307 rifles use different rail families.
  • Do not select a Mark V rail using only the rifle’s caliber.
  • If the bolt-lug count and center spread do not agree, contact EGW Support before ordering.

8. Installation information

  • Both rail families are machined from 7075-T6 aluminum.
  • Both are compatible with Picatinny and Weaver-style rings.
  • EGW recommends 20 inch-pounds of torque.
  • Use a small drop of blue threadlocker during installation.
