Ruger American Picatinny Rail & Scope Base Fitment Guide

Use your Ruger American’s caliber or receiver-hole spacing to identify the correct EGW Picatinny rail.

Short action or long action?

Ruger American centerfire rifles use either a short-action or long-action rail. The rifle’s caliber will normally identify the correct action length.

Common short-action calibers

• .223 Remington
• .22-250 Remington
• .243 Winchester
• 6.5 Creedmoor
• 7mm-08 Remington
• .308 Winchester
• .300 Blackout
• .450 Bushmaster

The Ruger American Predator, Compact, Ranch, Standard, and Go Wild models use the short-action mount when chambered in a short-action caliber.

Common long-action and magnum calibers

• .25-06 Remington
• .270 Winchester
• .30-06 Springfield
• 7mm Remington Magnum
• .300 Winchester Magnum

Ruger American Standard, Magnum, and Go Wild models use the long-action mount when chambered in a long-action or magnum caliber.

Confirm by measuring

If you are uncertain about the action length, measure from the center of one inside receiver screw hole to the center of the other inside receiver screw hole.

Choose the correct MOA

• 0 MOA: The normal choice when most shots are taken from 0–500 yards.
• 20 MOA: Recommended when most shots are taken from 600–1,000 yards.

Choose the MOA for the distance where most of your shots will be taken, rather than an occasional maximum-distance shot.

Ruger American Long Action mounts

These mounts fit Ruger American centerfire rifles with approximately 3.538-inch center spread.

Standard Duty or HD?

Standard Duty rails are machined from 6061 aluminum and are a good choice for normal hunting and recreational shooting. HD rails are machined from stronger 7075 aluminum and are available for Ruger American short-action rifles.

An HD rail is a good choice for hard use, heavier recoil, or repeated use with quick-detach rings or attachments.

Before ordering

• Confirm that the rifle is a centerfire Ruger American.
• Match the caliber to the correct action length.
• If the action length is uncertain, compare the receiver’s center spread with the measurements above.
