Savage Round-Back Scope Mount & Picatinny Rail Fitment Guide
How to identify a Savage round-back receiver, determine short or long action, and choose the correct EGW Picatinny rail.
Is This Guide for My Savage Rifle?
This guide covers normal Savage 10/110-family centerfire rifles with a rounded rear receiver bridge.
A factory AccuTrigger confirms that the rifle uses a round-back receiver. If the rifle does not have an AccuTrigger, look at the rear receiver bridge before choosing a rail.
How to Identify a Round-Back Receiver
On a round-back Savage receiver, the rear receiver bridge is rounded rather than flat.
If your rifle has a factory AccuTrigger, it is a round-back receiver. If it does not, inspect the rear bridge carefully because older rifles may be either round-back or flat-back.
3.930 inches = Short Action
4.630 inches = Long Action
Short Action or Long Action?
Once the rifle is confirmed as a normal Savage round-back 10/110-family receiver, the model and caliber can usually identify whether it uses a short-action or long-action rail.

* .204 Ruger and .223 Remington were also used in other Savage receiver families. Confirm the exact rifle model before relying on caliber alone.

Choosing 0 MOA or 20 MOA
After identifying the correct action length, choose the amount of built-in elevation based on the distances where the rifle will be used most often.
|
0 MOA A good choice when most shooting will be done at approximately 499 yards or less. |
20 MOA A good choice when most shooting will be done at approximately 500 yards or farther. |
Some Savage round-back rails have also been produced in 30 or 40 MOA configurations. These higher-cant rails are intended for specialized long-range setups where the shooter has already confirmed the optic's elevation requirements.
Standard Duty, Hunter, or HD?
| Standard Duty | Machined from 6061 aluminum. A lightweight and dependable option for hunting, target shooting, and general use. |
| Hunter | Machined from 7075 aluminum with a shorter profile and beveled rear. This can provide additional clearance for lower rings, larger objective lenses, and scopes that need to sit farther rearward. |
| HD | Machined from solid 7075 aluminum with a longer mounting surface. The additional rail length can help when a scope needs to move farther forward for proper eye relief. |
Standard Duty is a solid general-purpose choice. Hunter and HD provide 7075-aluminum construction, with the main difference being rail length and scope-positioning flexibility.
EGW has also offered specialty two-piece, silver, Steel HD, and higher-MOA Savage bases. Check the live product listings for current specialty options.

Current EGW Standard Duty, Hunter, and HD round-back rails include hardware for both common Savage receiver screw sizes.
- Make sure the firearm is unloaded before beginning installation.
- Clean the receiver holes, screws, and mating surfaces before installation.
- Start each screw gently by hand and use only the screw size that correctly matches the receiver threads.
- Never force a mounting screw into the receiver.
- Confirm that the rail sits completely against the receiver before tightening the screws.
Common Savage Round-Back Questions
Does an AccuTrigger Savage have a round-back receiver?
Yes. A factory AccuTrigger confirms a round-back receiver.
Does a rifle without an AccuTrigger have a flat-back receiver?
Not necessarily. Older Savage rifles without an AccuTrigger may be either round-back or flat-back. Check the shape of the rear receiver bridge.
What is the center spread on a Savage round-back short action?
The short-action center spread is 3.930 inches.
What is the center spread on a Savage round-back long action?
The long-action center spread is 4.630 inches.
Is every Savage Model 110 a long action?
No. Older model-number conventions usually treated the 110 as long action, but newer Model 110 rifles may be short or long action. Use the caliber or center-spread measurement to confirm.
Should I choose Hunter or HD?
Both are machined from 7075 aluminum. The Hunter rail has a shorter profile that can help move the scope rearward and provide additional objective-bell clearance. The HD rail has a longer mounting surface that can provide more room to position the scope farther forward.
Should I choose 0 MOA or 20 MOA?
A 0 MOA rail is a good starting point when most shooting is approximately 499 yards or less. A 20 MOA rail provides additional usable elevation for longer-range shooting around 500 yards and beyond.
Still Unsure Which Savage Round-Back Rail Fits?
Send EGW Support the exact Savage model and caliber. If the receiver type or action length is unclear, include whether the rifle has an AccuTrigger, the center-to-center distance between the two centermost receiver screw holes, and a clear photo of the rear receiver bridge.
