Savage Flat-Back Picatinny Rail Fitment Guide

Confirm the receiver shape, measure the center spread, and match the correct EGW rail.

Quick answer

A Savage flat-back receiver is matched by measurement, not by caliber. Measure center-to-center between the two centermost receiver screw holes. A reading around 3.9 inches identifies short action, around 4.1 inches identifies medium/J-Series, and around 4.6 inches identifies long action.

Confirm that the receiver is flat-back

A flat-back receiver has a rear bridge that is lower and flat instead of matching the rounded front receiver ring.

Factory AccuTrigger: this confirms a round-back receiver. Use the separate round-back guide.

No AccuTrigger: this does not automatically mean the rifle is flat-back. Inspect the rear receiver shape.

Measure the receiver

Measure from the center of one centermost receiver screw hole to the center of the other. Normal customer measurements are fine; the reading only needs to clearly match one of the groups below.

• Short: 3.040 in. ejection-port opening; 4.275 in. action-screw spacing
• Medium / J-Series: 3.275 in. ejection-port opening; 4.522 in. action-screw spacing
• Long: 3.800 in. ejection-port opening; 5.062 in. action-screw spacing

Choose 0 MOA or 20 MOA

• 0 MOA: normal recommendation when most shooting is at 499 yards and closer.
• 20 MOA: normal recommendation when most shooting is at 500 yards and farther.
• 30 or 40 MOA: specialty options for customers who already know their setup requires that amount of elevation.

Choose a rail series

Standard Duty

Machined from 6061 aluminum. Standard Duty is available for short, medium/J-Series, and long-action flat-back rifles. It is the normal choice for short and medium actions.

HD

Machined from 7075 aluminum. HD is available for the verified long-action flat-back applications below and is the stronger long-action option.

For a long-action flat-back rifle, both Standard Duty and HD are compatible. Choose HD when you want the more robust 7075 rail, or Standard Duty when the lower-cost 6061 option fits your needs.

Short action — 3.930-inch center spread

Medium / J-Series — 4.090-inch center spread

Long action — 4.630-inch center spread

• Confirm the center spread matches the selected short, medium/J-Series, or long-action group.
• The verified flat-back rails above use #6-48 x 1/4-inch mounting screws and include a T-10 bit.
• Start every screw gently by hand. Never force a screw into the receiver.
