All Savage Axis-family rifles share one rail footprint. Choose the rail by MOA, series, and finish.

Quick answer

EGW Savage Axis rails fit every Savage Axis model in every caliber. This includes the original Savage Edge and the complete Axis family. The rifle's caliber, action length, production year, and receiver shape do not change the rail footprint.

No receiver measurement is normally required. Once the rifle is confirmed as a Savage Axis-family model or original Edge, choose the MOA and rail series below.

Choose 0 or 20 MOA

0 MOA
Recommended when most shots are taken at 499 yards or less.

20 MOA
Recommended when most shots are taken at 500 yards or farther.

Choose the MOA that matches the distance where most shooting occurs, not an occasional longest shot. Customers who need a specialized 30- or 40-MOA base normally know that requirement; contact EGW Support to confirm current availability rather than selecting one automatically by distance.

Choose Hunter or Standard Duty

Hunter — recommended
Machined from 7075 aluminum. Its shorter design has no forward overhang, providing better clearance for shorter scopes and larger objective lenses on the long Axis receiver.

Standard Duty — lower-cost option
Machined from 6061 aluminum. It is fully compatible with the Axis family and provides a longer mounting surface with additional forward ring-position options.

Hunter is the preferred starting point because the Axis rail must span a long receiver. The shorter Hunter profile improves scope clearance while also providing a more robust 7075-aluminum base. Standard Duty remains a compatible choice when price or additional forward mounting length is the priority.

Included hardware and installation

Both receiver screw sizes are included. Current Axis rails are drilled for #8-40 screws and include both #6-48 wide-head and #8-40 x 1/4-inch screw sets, plus a T-10 bit. This covers older and newer Axis-family receivers without changing the rail selection.

Degrease the receiver holes, mounting screws, and contact surfaces before installation.
Use 20 inch-pounds of torque and a small drop of blue threadlocker unless the firearm manufacturer specifies otherwise.
Start every screw gently by hand. Never force a screw into the receiver.
