How to identify the correct EGW Picatinny rail for Remington 700-pattern rifles and Bergara B14 centerfire and B14R rimfire models.

Start With the Rifle and Action Length

Remington 700-pattern scope bases are available in both short-action and long-action versions. The two receiver lengths use different mounting-hole spacing, so identifying the correct action is the first step.

Short Action vs. Long Action

Center spread is the center-to-center distance between the two centermost receiver screw holes. This measurement is especially useful on custom rifles, rebarreled actions, or rifles where the action length is uncertain.

Common Short-Action Calibers

Common short-action examples include .223 Remington, .243 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Remington, and .308 Winchester.

Common Long-Action Calibers

Common long-action examples include .25-06 Remington, .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, 7mm Remington Magnum, and .300 Winchester Magnum.

Remington 722, 721, 725, 40X & Ultimate Muzzleloader

Several older or specialized Remington rifles use the same basic mounting pattern as the Model 700, but their action family is already known from the model.

Bergara B14 Centerfire

Bergara B14 centerfire rifles use the Remington 700-pattern scope-base system. Select the rail according to whether the rifle is a short-action or long-action configuration.

Bergara B14R Rimfire

The Bergara B14R may be a rimfire rifle, but its receiver uses the Remington 700 short-action mounting pattern. Use the 3.627-inch short-action rail family.

Choosing 0 MOA or 20 MOA for Centerfire Rifles

Once the correct action length has been identified, choose the rail's built-in elevation according to the distances the rifle will be used at most often.

Screw Size & Installation

Remington 700-pattern rifles can be encountered with either #6-48 or #8-40 receiver screws. Current EGW Remington/Bergara rails are designed to accommodate the applicable current screw patterns.

• Confirm that the rail sits fully against the receiver before tightening the screws.
• Clean oil, debris, and old threadlocker from the receiver holes and mounting screws.
• Start every screw gently by hand and never force a screw into the receiver.
• EGW recommends 20 inch-pounds of torque with a small drop of blue threadlocker.

Common Fitment Questions

Will a short-action Remington 700 rail fit a long-action rifle?

No. The mounting-hole spacing is different. Short-action receivers use a 3.627-inch center spread, while long-action receivers use a 4.485-inch center spread.

Does a Bergara B14 use a Remington 700 rail?

Yes. Bergara B14 centerfire rifles use the corresponding Remington 700-pattern short-action or long-action rail.

Which rail fits a Bergara B14R?

The B14R rimfire uses the Remington 700 short-action mounting pattern with a 3.627-inch center spread.

Does a Remington 700 rail fit a Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard?

No. Although some of the mounting-hole relationships may appear similar, the receiver geometry, ejection-port shape, and overall rail dimensions are different. Use a rail specifically made for the Howa 1500 / Weatherby Vanguard family.

What if I want 15, 30, or 40 MOA?

Additional MOA options are available for some Remington 700-pattern rails. These are intended for shooters who specifically need additional built-in elevation for their optic and shooting distance.

Are two-piece and steel bases available?
