We need to know a few pieces of information before we can help you find the right picatinny rail.
- Who manufactured your firearm?
- We make picatinny rails for over 140 different applications. You can narrow your search by starting with who made your gun?
- Is it a Remington, a Savage, a Winchester, a Browning, etc.?
- Once you know who manufactured your firearm, it's super helpful to know the model. A lot of times, manufacturers make a certain model firearm and then they make variations on that model.
- For example: Remington 700, Remington 700 SPS Tactical, Remington 700 CDL, etc.
- For our purposes, MOST models use the same base, no matter the specific variation. We may not always call out the variation on our product pages because the database would be humongous and manufacturers are constantly adding new variations to their product line.
- What caliber is your gun?
- Most manufacturers use a Short Action (SA) and a Long Action (LA).
- Some models come in other action lengths as well, these are typically for Winchester Super Short Magnum (WSSM or SSA), Winchester Short Magnum (WSM), Medium Action and Magnum Action.
- Is your receiver drilled and tapped?
- If your receiver is drilled and tapped, we need to know the distance between the holes on the receiver. This measurement is taken from the center of one hole to the center of the next hole.
- If your receiver isn't drilled and tapped, we may still have a mount for you, it will just take a few more steps to find the correct base.
- Many models of guns were not drilled and tapped from the factory and the manufacturer started drilling and tapping receivers at a later date. This is extremely typical for shotguns. Many Remington 870s are not drilled and tapped, but you can still use our base if you are willing to have your gunsmith drill and tap your receiver.
- There are times when we don't make a base for your specific application and that can be quite a bummer. A lot of old rimfire guns came with a dovetailed receiver, but were not drilled and tapped. At the moment, we don't currently have anything to fit your application. There are other companies out there that make dovetail to picatinny adapters, we recommend contacting them.
Once you have gathered all of this information, you should be all set. 80% of the time, having a serial number doesn't help us, unfortunately we don't have a ginormous database of all serial numbers.
Your information should look something like this when it's all said and done:
Manufacturer: Remington
Model: 700 (typically the specific variation doesn't matter, Tactical, SPS, etc.)
Caliber / Action Length: .308 Win (Short Action)
Hole Spacings: .607" - 3.627" - .862"
With all of that information, we can now use the filter on our scope mount page!
